Get your FREE Flu Shot!

Today, Chairman Andrew Do hosted a free flu shot clinic at the Delhi Center in Santa Ana. Do you still need to get your flu shot this year? We are hosting two more FREE flu shot clinics for our community. These clinics are open to the public and provide shots at no cost. OC Health Care Agency nurses administer all vaccines on a first come, first serve basis.

The flu or influenza is a serious illness. It is more than just a runny nose and sore throat. The flu can make you very sick and cause you to go to the hospital or even lead to death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get the flu vaccine (flu shot). You can protect yourself and those around you by getting a flu shot.

For a full list of dates, times and locations, please see the flyer below. Any questions? Please call Chairman Andrew Do’s office at (714) 834-3110.

Regulating Sober Living Homes

Last Tuesday, October 16th, the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a proposal by District Attorney Tony Rackauckas to regulate sober living homes in unincorporated Orange County, becoming the first County in the state to crackdown on the facilities. This is part of an effort to end the “Rehab Riviera” in Orange County.

Chairman Andrew Do spoke with Dr. Drew Midday Live on KABC and The John and Ken Show on KFI highlighting the importance of the ordinance that will require alcohol, narcotic and drug abuse programs to register each year with the Orange County Health Care Agency. The ordinance is an investigative tool that the District Attorney can use to hold fraudulent treatment facilities accountable. According to the state Department of Health Care Services, there were 140 licensed outpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment and recovery centers, and 323 halfway houses in Orange County.

The Board of Supervisors also gave direction for the Orange County Health Care Agency to return to the Board with a countywide enforceable ordinance including cost recovery options.

The County of Orange is committed to combating the dangerous and unregulated sober living home industry that has wreaked havoc on communities, and left addicts overdosing in residential neighborhoods.

Walk-A-Thon Fights Mental Health Stigma

On Sunday, Chairman Andrew Do joined hundreds of participants for the Orange County Association for Vietnamese Mental Health Awareness and Support’s (OCAVMHS) annual walk-a-thon at Mile Square Park to bring awareness to mental health issues in the community.

OCAVMHAS, a local mental health advocacy group, helps individuals and families struggling with mental illness by raising awareness, offering support groups and more. De-stigmatizing mental health issues and encouraging people to seek out help when needed is their mission. Groups like OCAVMHAS are important in the effort to combat stigma surrounding mental health, especially in our ethnic communities.

Thank you to the members of OCAVMHAS along with local scout troops, Lion Dance performers and other participants who helped bring awareness to an issue that touches the lives of people across Orange County.
