Black April Message from Supervisor Andrew Do

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. Hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled the terror of Communism by sea or through jungles. Uncountable numbers perished in search of freedom. I feel a deep personal gratitude to the over 58,000 American service members and over 300,000 Vietnamese soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for democracy. Without their sacrifices, my family and thousands of others could not live in freedom today. On this solemn day, we remember all those who gave their lives in the defense of freedom. We are forever reminded that freedom is not free.

May is Mental Health Month 2019

This year marks the 70th anniversary the month of May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States and many national organizations such as NAMI and Mental Health America. Since 1949, the goal of Mental Health Awareness Month is to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to stop the stigma associated with mental health.

Each year I work hard to provide supportive services to individuals and families, educate the public and advocate for policies that support people with mental illness and their families, and work to reduce stigma in this County. This month, I will work to raise awareness of how Orange County is working daily to address the mental health needs of our County. Join me in an effort to de-stigmatize seeking mental health treatment by talking with your friends and family about how vital mental health is in your community. Together, we can make Orange County a happier, healthier place to live, work, and play!

Affordable and Permanent Supportive Housing Project in Westminster Breaks Ground

More affordable housing will be coming to the City of Westminster! Last week we broke ground for Della Rosa, a project that will bring much needed units to the First District. The City of Westminster has been integral in the process that will create 25 permanent supportive housing units serving chronically homeless individuals and 25 affordable housing units. This is yet another step towards building the housing needed to address Orange County’s homeless crisis. Thank you, Affirmed Housing, the City, and all of our stakeholders in making this project a reality! For more info, visit the city page here.
